Cartomancy Readings by Email

What is Cartomancy?

 From Wikipedia:

"Cartomancy is fortune-telling or divination using a deck of cards. Forms of cartomancy appeared soon after playing cards were first introduced into Europe in the 14th century.

Divination (from Latin divinare "to foresee, to foretell, to predict, to prophesy ", related to divinus, divine), or "to be inspired by a god",is the attempt to gain insight into a question or situation by way of an occultic, standardized process or ritual.

Cartomancy using standard playing cards was the most popular form of providing fortune-telling card readings in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. In English-speaking countries, the most common form of cartomancy is generally tarot card reading."

When cards have images, these can trigger access to intuition and to inner wisdom. They can spark entry into the subconscious which then allows for deep introspection, as well as analyses over various situations. Basically, they can help one think of different approaches to a problem and suggest various solutions.  You know how sometimes you can think "wow, why didn't I think of that before?!" They are very much like having a guide, or a friend, that is connected to higher energies and can give assistance in everyday life. When using playing cards, usually they do not have images (although nowadays there are a lot of playing card decks that incorporate images) but reading them also requires intuition and a creative way of thinking. Spirits and guides can also speak to us though the cards.

There is a great universal wisdom that cartomancers tap into when giving a reading. They use this universal wisdom and their own intuition in order to read the cards for you, and gain understanding to your situation. Universal wisdom is essentially what is sometimes called the collective mind, it is something we are all connected to.

Playing Card Readings

Tarot cards have 78 cards which are divided into 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards, which are further divided into 4 suits. Card meanings of tarot are essentially the same, no matter which deck you choose. Tarot cards may have symbols added: astrological, Kabbalist, etc. and extra meanings may be ascribed due to the deck theme.

Meanings differ between decks and decks may have varying numbers of cards.

Playing cards have 52 cards, each which has an  ascribed meaning that may differ according to the system followed. Sometimes playing cards may have images added rendering them a sort of combination playing card oracle deck.

Lotus is a life-long student of the spirit, and all things esoteric. As an animist & biocentrist, she has always felt most at peace in nature and has done what she could to help protect the land, sea, and air, along with the beings that live within those realms. She volunteered with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) (including founding a local chapter) and has volunteered previously as a naturalist. She studied many years in Tibetan Buddhism which was completely life-changing, and which she also taught to inmates through the Liberation Prison Project (LPP). She does not technically consider herself a Buddhist any longer as she yearned for more nature-based practices, and ended up going back to more pagan/occult based practices.

She has been a devotee of Hekate and involved within the Covenant of Hekate in several roles since 2013, including becoming a Torchbearer and Keybearer, as well as the editor-in-chief of the Covenant's newsletter, Noumenia News. She has recently founded an online sanctuary under the auspices of the CoH, named The Sanctuary of Hekate Potnia Theron. She is very interested in folk magic of various cultures such as that of the Pennsylvania Germans , (called Braucherei or Pow-wow), and is an an active practitioner of Hoodoo and Obeah. She is also very interested in the faith & beliefs of the Slavic & Celtic peoples where she shares much ancestry.
Lotus has been reading tarot and oracle cards for over well over 10 years.

TESTIMONIALS

"In approaching Lotus for a tarot reading I knew her intuitive skills and natural understanding of the Tarot would empower the information and add a magical quality to the experience rather than being just a simple reading, and I was not surprised. I’d been stuck and unmotivated. I had tried many times to change my luck, energy, mind to get a new goal or goals happening. The reading was a two stage work; a traditional tarot reading with The William Blake Tarot of the Creative Imagination, and then a reading for more clarification with the The Forty Servants deck. The readings pointed at deep healing that needed my attention, specifically dealing with betrayal and old wounds. Using the cards as clues to focus healing, I studied the reading often to check my progress. I used the reading basically as a scaffold or road map/contract for change and I did a lot of home work with it! The reading made so much sense and was so clear and complete I decided to milk it for everything I could. The Forty Servants cards supported the Tarot message, and I created an altar using the card sigils drawn on paper to empower the servants to help me attain this shift I was seeking. In the weeks following the reading, I’ve been so busy keeping up with the new energy and the shifts. I thank Lotus for the gift she shares, and enjoy this much needed focus and home work that’s kick started new things. The reading was sensitive, natural, and was really exactly the teaching I needed. The reading gave me direction with a magical edge. Wow! ~Heidilyn. S.
